The process always begins with lines...typically some simple blue lines sketched onto a page as my mind wanders to whereand what is their final destination. This project for a professional athlete seemed perfect to explorethe process. The concept of escaping the confines of the expected frame - living outside the lines - coloring your own path. This speaks to most of my creative work - sketch where it starts, more sketches to discover where it could go, and play there to see what happens...the results always reminds me that the process is always as important as the product.
Many nights I decompress from the day by grabbing the sketchbook and drawing faces. Most of the time, it's random silly men, but of late I've had the itch to try some softer creatures. To be real honest, I'm slightly intimidated by the process - they aren't as beautiful as I'd like and often I tire of the same old sea hag flowing from my pen. Yet, I'm determined to move ahead.
